Your Research @ Boise State

The Office of Information Technology is deploying free virtual servers to support researchers and faculty, as well as support the University’s research mission.

In order to further their research commitment, each researcher and faculty member may request one virtual server with up to 500 gigabytes of data storage. The typical setup will consist of:

  • 1 CPU
  • 1 Gb Memory VM server (either a Microsoft Server or Red Hat OS).
  • Different operating systems may be configured if requested.
  • Servers may be requested by submitting a request for service through Help Desk Self Service.

A consultation will follow to determine the exact needs of the researcher or faculty member, what type of platform is desired and who will be responsible for support of the server. The server will then be configured as quickly as possible with ownership transferred to the researcher.

Virtual servers will be backed up for disaster recovery and located in production server space on UPS and generator power. OIT’s Systems Engineers maintain and update the backend servers and provide 24/7 monitoring of the systems.

Our goal is to make your experience with Your Research @ Boise State the best you have ever had at Boise State!
