Missing the ability to retract a message in Google Apps? You now have a five-second window after you send a message to decide to retract it.

Within Gmail, go to Settings > Labs and enable the “Undo Send” lab.

Now, after sending a message, you’ll see text at the top of the screen that looks like this:

undo

If you want to retract that message, click the “Undo” link.

If you don’t click “Undo” the message will be sent and cannot be recalled.

The default retract time is 5 seconds. If you want this to up this to 10 seconds, choose Settings > General within Gmail at top-right. Next to “Undo Send:” specify your desired retraction time.

Keep in mind Google Labs only work in recent web browsers; if you have Internet Explorer 6, for example, you’ll need to upgrade to IE 7 to make this work.
