chinese-factory-worker1It has been three weeks since the Vice-President & Provost announced the transition to Google Apps for Education, we thought it would be good time to update you on where we are in the process.

In the past three weeks over 700 people have signed in and used their Google Apps for Employees accounts. More than 15 departments have been fully migrated, with more being added every week.

This project has involved a significant amount of work and cooperation across campus. 45 technologists, representing every University college and department, have come together to work on moving 4500 GroupWise accounts to Google Apps.

We’ve been utilizing several of Google’s collaboration tools to facilitate the migration. A Google Site has used to share details on migration processes and procedures. Google Docs have been used to document migration schedules and technologist roles and duties. Subscribed notifications are being used to keep us all in sync.

We have 60 more days left in this phase of the project, and to get it done on time will require University personnel to move about 400 accounts per week. We have a lot of work left to do, but thus far it is going smoothly.
