Windows XP Service Pack 3
On Thursday, August 7th, OIT began pushing Windows XP Service Pack 3 as a controlled release to people in select University areas. This service pack provides behind-the-scenes updates to improve security and reliability. (More information can be found here.) It will be pushed to all OIT-supported areas of the University during the week of August 11th.
You will see a yellow shield icon and popup message displayed in the system tray (the lower right hand corner of your screen, by the clock). Click the notification and then click Next to begin the update.
If you do not click the notification to install the update manually, the installation will automatically begin at 3:00 PM.
You will be prompted to reboot your computer once the update has finished installing. Microsoft recommends rebooting when prompted, rather than waiting to reboot later, in an effort to avoid potential issues.
If you have questions regarding this update, or experience any problems, please call the OIT Help Desk at x64357.
