Wait on Windows XP Service Pack 3
Microsoft recently released Service Pack 3 for Windows XP (info on what’s included can be found on Microsoft’s website). SP3 has been made available through Microsoft’s Windows Update service, but Microsoft is currently metering the number of people that have access to the update on a daily basis, so your mileage may vary as to its availability for your home Windows PC.
We recommend not installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 on University-owned equipment until we have had time to work out some existing conflicts. For example, we’ve already seen some issues where Service Pack 3 prevents Clean Access wireless authentication from working correctly on campus.
Until testing has been completed, we are holding back the update on the OIT Windows Update server, and will deploy Service Pack 3 as soon as we’re convinced it won’t interfere with your work.
