Blackberry 8700cConvenience keys on the Blackberry 8700 and Blackberry 8300 (Curve) can speed access to your most commonly used applications. The convenience keys on the 8700 can be set to open any application you frequently use. Most commonly, the left side convenience key is set to open the Push to talk feature. On the 8700, the convenience keys are located in the center front between the send and end keys and on the left hand side (it has 3 bumps on it). On the 8300 (Curve), the convenience keys are located on the right and left hand sides. To set the application the convenience keys open follow these steps:

  • On the Home Screen (it has all the icons), locate the Setting folder and click to open it
  • Locate Options (most like a wrench icon) {if you have changed from the default AT&T or Cingular them you can skip to this step}, click to open it.
  • Scroll down the list to Screen/Keyboard and click to open it.
  • Scroll down on the Screen/Keyboard options to locate the convenience key settingsBlackberry Curve (8300)
  • Highlight the key you would like to change and click
    • (On the 8700 you will have select Change Option from the menu)
  • Select the desired application
  • Repeat for the other convenience key

My personal preference on a 8700 is the front convenience key opens the calendar and the side access the sound profiles. The side convenience key allows me to quickly set the sound profile so the Blackberry won’t ring during a meeting.Stay tuned for more Blackberry articles in the coming months!
